Intermezzo, a term often used in opera, refers to a musical interlude that provides a moment of reflection and transition within the larger narrative; a pause between acts. As an album title, Intermezzo signifies a pivotal juncture in my career when I took a break from it all, uncertain if or when I would return to the stage as life brought different priorities, such as parenting. Then one day, I discovered the soulful and bel canto style of Michele Mangani's clarinet works. “I want to play that!” was my immediate response upon hearing one of his pieces on social media.
